Flu Clinics 2020

Due to COVID 19, and the fact that the Kyle Medical Practice is located in a larger Health Centre with other health care practitioners, we are being advised to run our flu clinics externally this year.

Therefore we will be running our flu clinics from the Lighthouse Centre which is located next door to the Health Centre.  We are aware that this is very different to what our patients are used to, but it is not possible to operate our flu clinics in our usual way this year and still maintain safe social distancing, nor is it possible to operate a one way, walk through system within the Health Centre building.  We all wish that we could operate as normal – but this year we need to make this change.

We will initially be running 6 full day clinics – on two days for 3 weeks, and then arranging mop up clinics for those who were not able to attend their designated invite slot.  The shielded patients and their household members over the age of 18 will be invited first, then the over 65’s, then those aged between 18 and 64 in an at risk group. Patients will be sent an invite for a one hour slot on a certain date to prevent large amounts of people arriving at the one time and to minimise queuing.

The nasal flu vaccines are not available yet so we will arrange for the pre-schoolers and those aged 12-17 in an at risk group, or who live with a shielding patient to come at a later date.

We are basing the walk through clinics in the Lighthouse Centre as it allows for a one-way system to be operated and is close enough to the Medical Practice should a situation arise that needs us to provide extra staff to those running a skeleton crew at the GP practice on these days, or vice versa then this can happen easily and quickly.

For those who cannot manage the three small steps at the back of the Lighthouse Centre to gain access due to mobility issues etc, please contact the practice when you receive your invite letter and we will make other arrangements.

There are a couple of things to bear in mind when attending the flu clinic:

  • Please enter via the BACK door (3 small steps) and use the hand gel provided.
  • Please wear a face covering
  • Please make sure you are wearing a short sleeved t-shirt under your jacket so that we can easily access your arm as there will be other patients waiting.
  • Please come alone unless your partner/ family member also has ann appointment at the same time.
  • Please follow the one-way system and leave the building via the front door.
  • There will be NO toilet facilities available to patients.

We do not undertake these changes lightly and we can assure you that a lot of thought and planning has gone into planning these clinics and a lot of other venues have been considered, however we feel this to be the safest way to operate this year and we truly appreciate your help and understanding at this difficult time.
